Automating Water Pump Remotely through SMS and Calls

Automating Water Pump Remotely through SMS and Calls

Despite the ease with which modern technologies enable remote control, the emphasis on simplicity and cost-effectiveness necessitated a particular solution. Given the high costs associated with the remote location and the absence of a broadband connection via cable, the only viable alternative was to utilize the cellular network. By leveraging ubiquitous mobile phones, the water pump could be managed using calls or SMS messages. This straightforward control solution surpassed much more expensive options, including control via a smartphone app over the internet.

In this particular scenario, the well, water pump, and control panel are situated in a remote plain field, while the destination for the water supply, a monastery, is positioned atop a 1.5km mountain. The water pump facilitates the transportation of water through a pipe to a storage tank located on the mountain. In order to optimize efficiency, the water pipe is not kept in constant operation. Instead, it can be activated remotely using a control panel that incorporates a Teltonika Networks TRB141 gateway, thereby enabling the water pump to be switched on whenever required. This can be accomplished by making a phone call or sending an SMS to the TRB141 gateway SIM card from a mobile device. Once the tank is full, the pump can be deactivated remotely via the same method, either by calling or sending an SMS.
